Ernest Buetler
Dr. Ernest Beutler treated many Gaucher patients before any kind of effective Gaucher treatment existed. He and his team at City of Hope and later at Scripps, created a diagnostic test for Gaucher, developed a chaperone cell treatment, and cloned the enzyme which was bought by Genzyme and became the basis for cerezyme. He is also known for his work with Tay-Sachs and other enzyme deficiency diseases.
