NOTES
ON PRODUCTION TECHNIQUE
The idea is to try and create the spontaneity of an improvisational show on
a movie set while still maintaining the story telling needs of the whole film.
The film will be shot like a documentary, very informal, where the characters
can address the camera as part of their reality.
There is a lot of latitude— the acting can be very broad and silly or
occasionally emotional and serious.
Some scenes are total fantasies, or digitally manipulated for extreme humor.
Julie, the main character, will wear padding and we will also use some optical
tricks to make her appear fatter and skinnier. And in the end, although she
loses 70 pounds, she never gets all the way down to her “ideal”
weight.
Julie also has “relationships” with singing chocolate, her cynical
bathroom scale, and her diet log that plays the role of her conscious.
